One person suffered minor injuries in a small backyard fire early Saturday morning in Russell.

According to the Russell Police Department, dispatch received a call at 1:07 AM Saturday reporting a bonfire out of control in the unit block of North Maple and the fire burned a gas can and fence.

The Russell City Fire Department, Russell County EMS, and officers from the Russell PD and Russell County Sheriff’s Office responded.

Upon arrival, the fire was under control, but one subject reportedly had burns to the face.

EMS did not take the person to the hospital due to patient refusal.

Fire Chief Shane Preston said the fire was in an approved fire pit, but the subjects had a gas can too close to it.
