The City of Mulvane announced Monday that it was awarded a grant from FEMA for fire equipment.

The Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) will provide $24,999 to Mulvane Fire Rescue as long as 5 percent of the grant ($1,249) is matched with non-federal funds.

Mulvane officials said the funding will be used to purchase mobile breathing air supply equipment for Rescue 410. The equipment will be used to refill firefighter air tanks on the scene of an emergency.

Tanks last about 20 minutes before they need to be changed out. Being able to refill the tanks on-scene will give firefighters more time before they have to return to the station.
