Turnpike lanes open again after cattle truck overturned

Both lanes on the turnpike near mile marker 28 are back open after a cattle truck overturned earlier this morning in Sumner County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol worked the accident that happened around 4:00 a.m. Monday, May 11th.

Trooper Aaron Marein says about 33 head of cattle were in the truck at the time of the accident. Four of the cattle were injured and had to be put down according to Marein.

According to the KHP, the driver was soutbound on the turnpike, fell asleep and went off the roadway, rolling the truck on its side.

Marein says the driver will be ticketed for a hours of service violation.
