Steven B. Palen


Steven Benedict Palen was born on June 21, 1960 in Beloit, Kansas, the son of Virgil and Betty Schroeder Palen. He died unexpectedly on Friday, April 24, 2015 at his home in Tipton, Kansas at the age of 54 years, 10 months, and 3 days. Steve grew up and spent his whole life in Tipton, and graduated from Tipton High School in 1978. For most of his life, Steve worked on the farm, and enjoyed working with the cattle. He also worked as a rural mail carrier, as well as an EMT, and spent more than 30 years serving as a volunteer for the Tipton Fire Department. Steve loved spending his free time hunting and trapping. He also had a great love for his family, especially his nieces and nephews. He was a member of the St. Boniface Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. Steve was preceded in death by his mother, Betty in 2009. He is survived by his father, Virgil of Tipton; sister, Sandra Harder of Salina; three brothers, Roger of Wichita, Rodney and his wife Anne of Beloit, and Byron and his wife Barb of Beloit; nieces and nephews, Krista (Doug) Patterson, Jeremy Harder, Caleb, Alison, Vincent, Brady, and Blaise Palen; great nieces and nephews, Alyssa, Brooke, and Jarred Patterson, and Adalie Harder; and a host of other relatives and friends.

A memorial mass will be at 10 AM Thursday, April 30, 2015 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Tipton. A parish rosary service will be at 7 PM Wednesday at the Church. Per his wishes, cremation was chosen & there will be no visitation. Memorials may be given to the Tipton Fire Department or the Mitchell County EMS.
