A Eureka man narrowly escaped an early morning fire last Wednesday, April 22, without injury.

Dennis Samples Sr., 58, woke up to his home on fire at 3:30 a.m., and was able to get out without serious injuries.

According to the Eureka City Fire Chief Doug Williams, two rooms of the home, located at 417 W. 5th, were fully engulfed when the fire department arrived. The fire had also broken out a window, catching the porch roof on fire.

Firemen were able to extinguish the fire; however the blaze destroyed two rooms, and caused smoke and heat damage throughout the rest of the house.

The Kansas State Fire Marshal determined the cause of the fire to be from the furnace.
