Norcatur and Jennings Fire Departments were called Tuesday night to a fire in an abandoned trailer house north of the Clayton grain elevator, which started around 10:30 p.m.

Norcatur Fire Chief Carl Lyon said three trucks and five firefighters responded from Norcatur and five trucks and eight to ten firefighters from Jennings.

Jennings Chief Kerry Green said that the trailer was filled with miscellaneous belongings that made the fire difficult to put out.

“We had it out once,” he said, “but the fire was under some of the stuff and rekindled.”

Neither of the chiefs knew how the fire started or who owned the trailer, which was almost destroyed. Due to the amount of stuff in the trailer, the fire was not extinguished until 3 a.m., Chief Green said.
