Emergency services showcase set for May 2 in Overbrook

Overbrook Police Chief Terry Hollingsworth and Fire Chief Russell Mitchell are coordinating the first annual Overbrook’s Emergency Service Showcase 8 a.m.-3 p.m. May 2 at Overbrook City Lake.

Agencies participating will include Osage County Sheriff’s Office, Kansas Highway Patrol, representatives from Douglas County Sheriff’s Office as well as Lyndon, Carbondale, Scranton, Baldwin and Burlingame police departments. Demonstrations will be given with the Jaws of Life.

Osage County Emergency Preparedness Chairperson Bryce Romine will be in attendance as well. Representatives from Operation Lifesavers of Burlington Northern Railroad will have information about safety around railroads.

Lifestar the State of Kansas Department of Tourism representing Parks and Recreation game wardens from Osage and Franklin counties will also be at the event.

Hollingsworth said the New You Club will be selling breakfast, Overbrook Rotary Club will be selling hamburgers and hot dogs, Overbrook Fire Department will be selling walking tacos and the Friends of the Overbrook Library will have cookies for sale.

WIBW Weatherspotter will have representatives from the station to answer questions about weather.

“We are hoping for this event to be an annual event and the response we have been receiving is exciting, as the public is anxious to learn about the emergency services available not only in Overbrook, but surrounding communities and counties as well,” said Hollingsworth.
