The Arkansas City Fire-EMS Department responded to about 4:15 p.m. Thursday to a structure fire at 809 North D St.
The fire was isolated largely to a garage, estimated to be 16 feet by 20 feet, at the rear of the home.
However, there were several trees that caught fire, as well as some damage to the porch of the home, a camper trailer, a carport and an older-model vehicle, due to a strong north wind.
Firefighters were able to knock down the flames in three to four minutes, limiting the damage that could have been done by the fire.
Fire Chief Bobby Wolfe said the fire still was under investigation Tuesday night, and that he had no dollar value for estimated losses.
There was one juvenile neighbor who suffered some smoke inhalation, but refused transport. One firefighter was transported to South Central Kansas Medical Center for heat stress.
Wolfe said that with fires that burn hot, as this one did, there is the potential for the firefighters to have electrolyte issues.
The firefighter, who was unnamed, was treated with intravenous fluids and released by 8 p.m.
