The Hutchinson Fire Department was on the scene of a structure fire Tuesday morning in the 100 block of East Sixth, but as of about 8:20 a.m. had the blaze well under control. The house was thought to be unoccupied.

At about 6:40 a.m., dispatch had reported a fire at 103. E. Sixth. A passerby had earlier reported seeing flames.

Upon arrival, firefighters found the 2 1/2-story house’s roof fully involved.

They did a first-story sweep and found no one, believing the house to be vacant.

According to Deputy Chief Doug Hanen, the roof deteriorated to the point that crews were pulled from the building and fought the fire from the outside.

As of about 7:30 a.m., there were six units on scene, including two firetrucks.
