No one was hurt, but a garage in Hutchinson is a total loss after an early-morning fire.

According to Hutchinson’s Deputy Fire Chief Doug Haney, six units were called to a structure fire in the 600 block of Carey Street shortly before 5:00 Tuesday morning.

The building was an above-ground garage with an underground residence below it. The garage was engulfed in fire.

Crews had the fire under control in about 30 minutes, but crews stayed on the scene to make sure no hot spots flared up.

Fire officials are still trying to determine the extent of the damage, but they know the garage is a complete loss and there is damage to the residence, an outbuilding and a vehicle.

No one was home at the time of the fire and there’s no word yet on what caused it.
