Alcohol may have been a factor in an overnight head-on collision in Shawnee County.
Just after 1 a.m. Friday morning, the Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a vehicle traveling south in the northbound lanes on US-75 Highway near 110th Street.
One Sheriff’s Deputy noticed the vehicle coming towards them while on the Westgate Bridge, but it then collided with a truck head-on seconds later.
The man driving the vehicle in the wrong direction refused treatment at the scene and was arrested for DUI and other related traffic charges.
The male driver of the Mazda truck that was struck had to be extricated from his vehicle. He was taken to a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
Shawnee County deputies say everyone’s lucky the accident wasn’t worse.
The accident is still under investigation.
