Overland Park apartments destroyed by fire

An Overland Park apartment complex was engulfed by flames Friday afternoon, causing heavy damage.

The fire broke out in the kitchen on the second floor of the Antioch Woods complex, at 8720 W. 106th St., around 3:30 p.m. It was under control by 5 p.m.

Skytracker video showed heavy smoke and flames coming from the roof. Eighteen units were damaged; 12 by fire and six by water. Nineteen kids and 19 adults were impacted.

All 90 units were evacuated. Authorities tell us everyone made it out safely. No injuries have been reported.

A team of four to six volunteers from the Red Cross have been called to assist.

Overland Park Police said the fire isn’t causing any road closures, but traffic is moving slow in the area.
