Vehicles burn

Two vehicles burned after a wiring short is believed to have started the blaze in one of the vehicles Thursday, April 10 around 10:30 p.m.

Humboldt Volunteer Firefighters responded to the home of John Hole at 203 Bridge Street, Humboldt, when a report of a pickup on fire was called in.

By the time firefighters arrived at the home, the fire had spread from the pickup to a van parked next to the pickup. Both vehicles were fully engulfed and later considered total losses.

Humboldt Fire Chief Kent Barfoot said Hole’s pickup was used in his pest control business. All chemicals were removed from the pickup prior to flames burning the rear of the truck and no release of toxic agents was experienced.

Accident reported

Allen County Deputies and Humboldt Volunteer Firefighters responded to a rollover accident at 1600 and California when Jacob Kettler, 17, and Jarren Kettler, 14, both of Humboldt, rolled a 1978 Chevrolet pickup Tuesday, April 8 at 6:30 p.m.

Witnesses at the scene said the steering column broke causing the accident. Jacob was life flighted by helicopter to Olathe Medical Center. He is expected to recover. Jarren received minor injuries and was released at the scene.
