For the past few weeks, vehicles traveling on K-99 Highway between US54 and Highway 400 have been detained due to construction and have been lead through the construction by a pilot car.

Last Wednesday, April 9, at approximately 4:30 p.m., the pilot car for Venture Road Construction traveled off the road way and entered the west ditch, near 50th and K-99. Luckily, no other vehicles followed the pilot car into the ditch.

According to the Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office, Kasey Hearn, 23, of Preston, was driving southbound on K-99 in the pilot car, leading vehicles around the road construction when the truck she was driving left the roadway and entered the ditch. Kasey followed the ditch and attempted to drive back up onto the road but struck a concrete culvert causing the truck to land on it’s side.

Hearn was transported to the Greenwood County Emergency Room for evaluation and later released. She was later arrested on a warrant out of Kingman County.

Deputies with the Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office and Greenwood County EMS responded to the call.

The cause of this accident is still under investigation.
