A woman in her 30s escaped serious injury after her vehicle rolled and landed on its passenger side on an Interstate 70 exit ramp in downtown Topeka.

The accident was reported about 6:10 p.m. on the 10th Street exit ramp from westbound I-70.

Cpl. Joey Schulmeister said at the scene the woman said she made a late decision to take that exit from the highway. She then overcorrected her steering first one way and then the other before her vehicle rolled.

A fire crew that responded to the scene extricated the woman from her vehicle. Schulmeister said she was caught by her seat belt, and because her vehicle came to rest on its passenger side, she would have fallen if she had unhooked it.

The woman was able to walk away from the crash, Schulmeister said. She was checked by American Medical Response ambulance personnel at the scene but sustained only minor injuries.

Police and emergency vehicles blocked the 10th Street exit ramp for about an hour after the crash.
