Injury accident reported Wednesday

Emporia Gazette – April 18, 2014

Three people were taken to Newman Regional Health Wednesday afternoon following an injury accident.

According to a press release from the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, around 9:30 am, Lyon County Deputies and Lyon County EMS were dispatched to Interstate 35 milepost 141 for an injury accident.

Upon deputies’ arrival, there were three people inside the vehicle that all required medical treatment and extrication.

During the investigation, it was determined that a semi-truck driver, Larry Staton 47 years old of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, was driving northbound on Interstate 35 when he began to change lanes to pass another vehicle. Staton did not see a small passenger car in the left lane, also northbound, that was getting ready to pass him. The small passenger car lost control and rolled in the median.

The driver of the passenger car, a 2011 Hyundai Tucson, was Erin Pauly 33, of Viola. Her two passengers were Constance Pauly, 61, Viola, and Anthony Taravella 60, Wichita. All three occupants of the car were wearing their seatbelts. All three occupants were taken to Newman Regional Hospital for unknown injuries. That hospital does not release patient conditions to the media.
