Significant loss after Haysville house fire

KWCH – April 15, 2014

A home in Haysville has significant damage after a fire Tuesday afternoon.

The fire at the home in the 900 block of W. 65th St. S. began a little before 9:30 a.m.

Sedgwick County Fire Chief Doug Williams says the house is still standing but the loss is significant.

Williams says crews struggled with the fire initially because it was concentrated in the basement.

There was heavy fire in the basement, but investigators are still working on a cause. There was also heavy heat and smoke on the main level according to Williams.

The family was home at the time of the fire but they were able to get our safely.
