The Cunningham Volunteer Fire Department made four runs this weekend, one north of town and three south of town.

The call for  a control burn that got out of control north of town, came in at 1:51 Saturday afternoon, March 15th, to 7038 NW 10th Street, a grass fire on Lindsay Stead property. Firefighters were on the scene for approximately two hours before the fire was brought under control. Four trucks from Cunningham and two from Kingman were used to fight the fire. No property damage and no injuries were reported.

While firefighters were extinguishing the fire northeast of Cunningham, a call came in from the Tom Renner farm, three and a half miles south of town on SW 170 Ave. This was a control burn of grass that also managed to get out of control. Two trucks from Cunningham and trucks from Nashville and Zenda responded to this fire.

Cunningham’s volunteers were called back to the scene at 8:48 Saturday evening to extinguish the fire that had rekindled in some hay bales. On Sunday morning at 9:00 o’clock, the firefighters were called to extinguish a tree pile that rekindled from Saturday’s fire.
