The Wabaunsee High School SADD Chapter, in conjunction with police officers and emergency personnel, will conduct a “mock vehicle crash” Tuesday morning, April 1. The exercise will begin around 9:00 a.m. at 5th and Kansas in Alma.

According to Alma City Marshal Mark Falk the exercise will include students from WHS, Wabaunsee County Sheriff’s Department, Kansas Highway Patrol, Alma Fire District #6, American Medical Response, Stewart Funeral Home and County Coroner Dr. Diana Katt.

Marshal Falk said the accident scenario will involve a multiple vehicle crash at the intersection as a result of a drunk driver. The scenario will be played out to be as realistic as possible. Falk said as a result of the accident there will be one “mock” injury and two fatalities.

Prior to the mock crash, Shawn and Ranee Gideon, Paxico, will address students at WHS and share their life experience of losing their son in an automobile accident.

Following the mock accident students will walk to the Wabaunsee County Courthouse where they will observe a mock jury trial. That trial will be held to convict those responsible for the accident.

Falk said the entire exercise should wrap up around noon.
