Mom and son escape house fire in KCK

A KCK family will be staying with relatives after their house caught fire Saturday morning.

Crews were called to the home in the 400 block of S. 76th Terrace, in Kansas City, Kan., around 11 a.m. after a women saw smoke coming from a spare bedroom.

She and her adult son were able to get out safely. However, the family’s four cats and bird died in the incident.

It’s unclear at this time what may have caused the fire. Authorities are investigating.
