A litter of pigs and shed were lost in a fire late Monday night south of Beloit.

The fire was reported around 10 a.m., just north of the South 290th Road and O Road intersection.

Mitchell Cloud Ottawa County Rural Fire Department District 3 Fire Chief Dan Emmott said the fire destroyed a small shed and did significant damage to a nearby storage building on the property.

“Two sows got out, but the pigs were lost,” he said. “A motor home in the storage building was destroyed.”

Emmott didn’t know how many piglets perished in the blaze.

He said the cause of the fire was undetermined and no loss estimate was available.

Tires on a tractor close to the flames were also ruined he said.

He said firefighters were on scene about 90 minutes.
